Read more about Playwright and Director Paula Boulton, who is currently looking for participants for About her/About him – a Made With Many Community Commission in Corby which will culminate in a performance in March.
What kind of artist are you?
As a playwright and theatre director I create bespoke work as requested on themes of social interest. I ran Shout! Theatre for 20 years responding to what the young people wanted to shout about, creating and performing over 60 plays in that 20 years. Corby Women’s Theatre Group is my other theatre group with whom I created Women of Steel and other plays since 2002. I am passionate about archiving and documenting the lives of ordinary Corby people. I also have a life as a violinist and musician and composed The Sounds of Home, an orchestral suite for Corby.
Where do you find inspiration?
Everywhere. Standing in a queue in a chip shop in the Peak District listening to scraps of conversations. Watching armed security guards at Paris Airport being horrible to migrants. Clearing my garage. Life is all around. Capturing it and retelling it is my job as an artist.
What advice would you give to anyone who wants to be an artist in Northamptonshire?
Follow your passion and be true to your dreams. The money will follow.
Do you have any memories of Made With Many Projects that are important to you?
This is my first project with Made With Many but I was involved in the initial bid for the Creative People and Places money.
What is your favourite biscuit or treat?
The ones I imagine on biscuit tree island.
