Meet The Artist: Michal Spišiak

Michal at RYG Films has been capturing the highlights of Made With Many for several years now, including our 10 Years of Making film, which you can watch here.

What kind of artist are you?

I’m a filmmaker and storyteller working in both commercial and creative spaces. On the creative side, it’s all about people, the work they create and their stories. On the commercial side, it’s anything from live events to promo videos.

Where do you find inspiration?

It’s about finding the story in what I am filming and put it together in a way that’s interesting to watch. Doesn’t matter if it’s a short film or a promo – if there’s heart in it, it’s easy for me to put my energy into it.

There are some great shows on Netflix that I enjoy watching, but more importantly, it’s the behind the scenes of the makers of the shows that I take inspiration from. For example, the recent series Adolescence, it was shot in single takes, so was incredible from a technical perspective.

What advice would you give to anyone who wants to be an artist in Northamptonshire?

Everything takes longer than you think. It will be a struggle to make a full-time living at first, have a predictable income source on the side and just keep going! Work with other people too, as opportunities come from collaborations.

Do you have any memories of Made With Many Projects that are important to you?

Many of the projects I’ve worked on with Made With Many have been live events and festivals, busy, fast-paced settings. This has super-boosted my responsive skills – to quickly capture key moments, anticipating action and telling a visual story as things unfold in real time.
