We Are Here exhibition
By the Youth, Art & Skills project in Wellingborough
During February half term 2023, Made With Many’s Youth Forum took over a shop in the Swansgate Shopping Centre to show We Are Here, a project about place and people – using maps, journeys and spaces to talk about how young people feel about Wellingborough and changes they’d like to see.
Local young people had the opportunity to work with artist Tamsyn Payne and add their thoughts to the exhibition by taking part in juice box etching, printing and paper crafts workshops and more.
The resulting exhibition included origami swans, pinned butterflies based on a word association exercise about living in Wellingborough, clay avatars the young people made of themselves, etchings of journeys made around town as well as reimagined vintage tourism posters of Wellingborough.
Feedback from the young people who took part
“I have gained new artistic skills along with improved communication skills. Also I like that I have been a part of the community.”

“I have learned how to create etchings and origami and apply this knowledge to help others complete similar projects. I also learned the value of the town I live in…. I feel it is important to consider how we perceive Wellingborough as this is where us as young people will spend the majority of our time.”
