Season’s Greetings
As that magical time of year approaches it is great to be able to support activities in the community that bring people together at Christmas. The Eloquent Fold (aka Artists Carole Miles and Phiona Richards) visited the Daylight Centre at the beginning of December to run some creative workshops to decorate the centre. The lanterns and tree decorations they produced were bright and cheerful, and lots of people at the centre were keen to get involved.
We have also had lots of festive opportunities for families in Corby including our Christmas Shindig at Danesholme Community Centre and a Shiny Play Day for under 4s. I made it along to the Shiny Play Day with my 2-year-old twins, and they could not contain their excitement, with lots of sensory activities. It’s great for little ones to have a chance to experience new things. The Corby team have also been working with Corby MIND to deliver creative activities such as willow weaving for their service users, Bub Club for under 4s and their grown-ups and a Christmas crafts morning for the residents at Shire Lodge care home. In the new year, they’ll be continuing their Bub Club sessions at Hazelwood Neighbourhood Centre, launching a new community safety project with local schools and bringing Liberty UK Festival to Corby in February – as well as building up to Pole Fair 2022 and much much more!
Looking forward, the Black Community Forum has been working on two events for Kwanzaa (the African Cultural celebration between Christmas and New Year) that will take place at Wellingborough African Caribbean Association on 31st December and 1st January. The first event is a celebration of creativity (Kuumba) and the second is a community feast with singing and dancing to see in the New Year.
It’s great to see the community getting together safely to celebrate the festive season with some creativity.
