Let’s Create
By Helen Willmott, Programme Director at Made With Many.
We’ve had a super busy start to 2020 here at the Made With Many offices, so this month I’d like to tell you about 3 things that have been occupying our time.
Firstly, a few weeks ago Arts Council England (the organisation that fund the majority of our activities) published a new 10 year strategy. I realise that probably sounds really dull to most people, but I’m not most people! The strategy, titled ‘Let’s Create‘ outlines an exciting vision for culture in all parts of England. It talks lots about towns and rural areas as well as cities, and it describes a country where every type of creativity, in all types of people is celebrated.
So, onto the second thing that’s been occupying our time. Last year we announced new financial investment to expand the reach of our programme into Wellingborough. We’ve been talking to lots of people in the town about this prospect, hearing what they would like to see happen locally and who we should work with. There’s still time to let us know your thoughts about this, and always will be as we start to run activities in the town from the spring onwards.
And last, but by no means least, earlier this month the final Grow festival took place in Corby. I believe that what happened across Corby town centre that weekend was a true embodiment of the new vision set out by Arts Council England. Alongside a selection of world-class arts, including the breathtaking Museum of the Moon by Luke Jerram, local people showcased their own creative skills. I was humbled to listen to the soundscape within a sculpture co-created with children at Pen Green nursery, to see hundreds of people processing through the woodland with their lanterns and to see the faces of young people telling their own poetry projected onto walls across the town centre. It truly showed that we all have the potential to create something amazing.
