Grow Festival 2019 – Food

Returning for it’s second year, Grow Festival 2019 filled Corby town centre with a wide range of performances, activities and experiences. Continuing to look at the essential ingredients for growth, the festival explored food, celebrating all things culinary.

Corby’s town centre was once again animated with hilarious street performers, magical family pop-up shows and spectacular art throughout the weekend.

Street performers throughout Saturday included spectacular circus and dance in Grow from Kapow2Faced Dance Company with their trademark fusion of break, street and contemporary dance, and charming walkabout act The Vegetable Nannies. There were also free craft workshops with artist Sarah Walpole throughout the day at James Ashworth VC Square where families could create something to carry in the parade with Artizani’s giant Lobster à la Cart leading the way to Coronation Park. A colourful rainbow of foods floated through the town centre to the park, where revellers enjoyed a vibrant display of colourful smoke, pyrotechnic sparkles and a crescendo of crackers.

“Congratulations working against the terrible weather, it was a very enjoyable event. All the professional artists and organisers really gave it everything and created a great atmosphere.”

On Sunday was the enormous Community Feast and the return of the People’s Stage, showcasing the wealth of talent in Corby. The feast was the culmination of months of community growing projects and rescued food from Northamptonshire’s Fruitful Abundance CIC. Three local chefs cooked up a delicious menu reflecting Corby’s diverse population and their cuisines.
