From 17th – 25th March organisations across the UK will be offering free or low cost activities as part of the annual Get Creative Festival, which is a national campaign to celebrate and support the everyday creativity happening all over the country. From Rhyme Time and LEGO Storybook Club in your local library to dance classes, photography, crafts and singing in a local choir – the Get Creative Festival has lots on offer for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
That means 9 whole days of activities that you can easily get involved in to get your creative juices flowing and to discover your new passion or hobby!
Around 10 million of us in the UK take part in a form of regular craft and creative activity each week, and that number is growing all the time. Creative activities are proven to help to alleviate anxiety, depression and stress – so taking part can really improve your health and wellbeing – as it can help you relax, laugh, move around more, express your feelings, be more sociable or create memorable moments with friends and family!
Why not make some memories during Get Creative Festival at Corby Mardi Gras, which returns for a second year on Saturday 24th March? There’ll be a live music stage and free crafty activities from 3pm outside of the Corby Cube, as well as a magical illuminated procession starting at 6pm through Thoroughsale and Hazel Woods. The Core at Corby Cube are also offering free taster sessions throughout the day so you can try out fun family games and drama sessions that are part of their regular Get Involved groups for children and young people.
If you run a group or organisation and want to be part of the festival, whether it’s an open mic night, knitting group or any other form of creativity, head to getcreativeuk.com and sign up your activities there – providing that it is free (or only covers costs) and happens between 17th and 25th March.
For more information on what you can get involved in locally – see getcreativeuk.com or visit our display in the entrance foyer of the Corby Cube.
