Greetings From Kwanzaa! POSTPONED

Greetings From Kwanzaa!

Update 28th December: As the COVID numbers continue to rise again, Words by Alliouagana Pearl has taken the decision to help people to continue to be safe by postponing this event and reshaping it into a different Kwanzaa themed activity in the new year. There is still a chance to win a prize though! Download the Kwanzaa quiz, and email your answers to alliouaganapearl@outlook.com by midnight on 1st January 2022.

The festival of Kwanzaa is celebrated every year from 26th December lasting for seven days and coming to a festive end on 1st January. For those seven days, each day a different principle is highlighted – Unity, Self-determination, Collective Work and Responsibility, Cooperative Economics, Purpose, Creativity and Faith.

Words by Alliouagana Pearl has been commissioned to deliver the event “Greetings from Kwanzaa” by the Black Community Forum (part of Made With Many)  supported by Arts Council England.

Come and celebrate the 6th principle of Kwanzaa, 'Kuumba', or 'Creativity' on the sixth day of Kwanzaa, Friday 31st December.  A free event for the whole family!

An amazing line-up of artists will be there leading on fun, creative activities that everyone can participate in:

  • Cinnamon Arts Group – Creating a Kwanzaa banner with creative input from everyone

  • Lemonpop Workshops – Make your own Kwanzaa Card and help create a Kwanzaa Canvas

  • Gerry Elliott – Creating the music of Kwanzaa giving everyone a chance on the drums

  • Words by Alliouagana Pearl – Storytelling and colouring activities for the children

Followed by some light refreshments and a chance to win some prizes in a Kwanzaa Quiz!

Finish the afternoon with performances by the Singer Serwaah and the UAA drummers and dancers leaving with your Kwanzaa Goody Bag!
