Creative Kingswood & Hazel Leys is a community-led creative programme operating on the estates of Kingswood and Hazel Leys in Corby. As a partnership between the KHL Big Local, Made With Many, The Core at Corby Cube and Corby Community Arts, we run a variety of creative activities including pop-up activities, festivals, workshops and public art, aiming to make a positive impact on our area and community. We are part of the Creative Civic Change programme run by Local Trust.
As part of our programme, we’re working with the KHL Big Local Partnership to inject creativity into the development of a skate park in Kingswood and a pump track in Hazel Leys. Each area will provide for different activities and groups, and we are looking to commission artists to create different designs for each area.
We are now looking for an artist/s to create sculptural street furniture, predominantly seating, to sit alongside these new developments. We would like the work to be playful, embrace skate culture, be comfortable, easy to use and need minimal upkeep. The overarching themes of our programme are: power, trees, architecture and sci-fi, and it would be good if one or more of these could be incorporated into the designs.
We expect the artist/s to:
- Run a co-creation workshop with local people to inform design
- Attend meetings with stakeholders to further understand the developments
- Create designs for approval by the CKHL Working Group
- Build and install at least 2 seats at each site (with a minimum of seating for 8 people in total)
- Provide all necessary method statements, risk assessments and documentation
Over the summer months we have commissioned a youth engagement project exploring skate culture and bike repairs/upcycling, which will be a key partner in this development potentially hosting the co-creation workshops.

Timescale
- Co-creation workshops, stakeholder meetings & design work: August 2022
- Creation & Installation: September & October 2022
- All works must be completed by mid-October 2022
Contractual information
There is a fee of £7,500 available for each site to include all artists fees, materials, installation costs and VAT (if applicable).
We welcome applications from artists to take on either one or both of the areas, mindful of the need for different designs for each area.
The commission will be made to an organisation or as a freelance contract. The organisation/practitioner will be responsible for all tax liabilities and National Insurance or similar contributions.
You will be contracted by Groundwork Northamptonshire and managed by the Made With Many team, who are a local arts programme that supports the CKHL Programme.
We expect the artist to have their own public liability insurance and DBS certificate.
