Wellingborough South Asian Heritage Project
18th July 2021
On the first day of South Asian Heritage Month we are pleased to share with you this collection of short stories, photo-video montages and podcasts from first-generation Asian pioneers who settled in Wellingborough from 1970 onwards. These stories provide a brief glimpse into their history and a backdrop of experiences that shaped their journey to United Kingdom.
The stories interweave their struggles and challenges and how through hard work, determination and sacrifice they were able to make a new life for themselves and their families. Each story demonstrates their individual commitment and contribution to the community of Wellingborough. We are grateful to each participant for giving us their time and commitment, towards the project and a willingness to share their stories.
This project has been led by Human Values in Action Foundation and Asha Deep in partnership with Support Northamptonshire and Made With Many, with support from Arts Council England. All digital artworks have been created by Rooful Ali.
